Some time ago I worked together with Social Media Interactie to create easy to use mockups for her portfolio. After I was contacted if I wanted to create a new logo for her as well. She already had a logo that she made herself but felt that her business had outgrown it. After filling out the logo design questionnaire I bundled the most important information:
☾ Her company description: an online marketing agency for entrepreneurial women
☾ Her dream clients: Young entrepreneurial women
☾ About what she wanted in a logo — simple and slick feminine logo with an icon — and what she wanted her dream client to take away from the logo: affordable and feminine
But also the secondary information:

☾ Her competitors
☾ What she had outgrown from her previous logo

The service I provided for Social Media Interactie is the starterslogo (starters logo). It’s a logo design service I offer to freelancers & business owners that are in business for less than three years. In the first logo I wanted to highlight the feminine side of her business in the icon. As mentioned above, Social Media Interactie focuses on female entrepreneurs and solopreneurs and is an online marketing agency that heavily focuses on social media.

The second concept I created was one that was a lot smarter and clean looking but not heavily focused on the feminine part. The icon in this logo design stands for making connections. It’s also a nod to the paid, earned and owned social media model where these three elements are connected in a harmonious social media strategy.
When I read the questionnaire my immediate feeling was to use a script font because to me that’s the perfect way to give the logo design a feminine touch and it’s a type of font that’s used for more affordable brands. When I think of a slick and clean logo, I think of a brand that’s chiquer and not necessarily affordable. To me, using a clean font would clash with the type of dream client she wanted to reach.
That’s why I ended up adding a bonus logo to show her that even though she might be over the font of her original logo, there were still other script fonts that would work for her business.
After a feedback round and revision, we decided on a hybrid version of the second and bonus logo concept. She really liked the icon from the second concept but loved the overall design of the bonus concept. The icon and favicon stayed the same as the second logo design concept.
